Brief Story of "Lingaa":

The story is split between two timelines:

1. The Pre-Independence Era (1939): The story revolves around the life of Raja Lingeswaran, a kind-hearted and noble king. Raja Lingeswaran is a visionary who wants to build a dam for the betterment of his people in Solaiyur, a remote village. He spends his own money and even sells his property to complete the dam construction. But the project faces various obstacles, mostly due to malicious intent from corrupt British officials and a few greedy villagers. Upon its completion, the villagers are misled into believing that the temple idol has been desecrated by the Raja, and as a result, the village faces calamities. Falsely accused and heartbroken, Raja Lingeswaran gives up his title and wealth, adopting the name 'Lingaa' and becomes a nomad.

2. Present Day: The village now faces a new threat. The government wants to demolish the dam for a new project. The villagers believe that the dam is still functional because of the blessings of their deity. They recall the legend of Raja Lingeswaran and believe that his descendant, who has the same name 'Lingaa', must be present at the dam to save it. Lingaa, the grandson (also played by Rajinikanth), is a clever thief, and initially, he's not interested in the village's concerns. However, after discovering his grandfather's noble deeds and the reasons behind his tragic past, Lingaa is inspired to fight for the cause and save the dam.

The story intertwines elements of action, drama, and romance, and delivers strong messages about community welfare, leadership, and the fight against corruption. The climax sees Lingaa saving the dam from a bomb threat, thus preserving his grandfather's legacy.

Throughout the movie, Rajinikanth's signature style and charisma are on full display, which is a significant factor behind the movie's appeal.
